Balayage is a blended look, it’s a soft, subtle way of adding graduated colour, and there should be no harsh lines or blocks of colour. Ombre hair has a more defined contrast between the roots and the ends of your hair – and added colour starts midway down your strands.

Balayage & Color
What is balayage, and how is it different from traditional highlights?
Balayage is a hand-painting technique that gives your hair a natural, sun-kissed glow. Unlike traditional highlights that use foils and go from root to end, balayage focuses on mid-lengths to ends for a softer, blended transition. It grows out more naturally and requires less maintenance.
Example: A client with dark brown hair wanting subtle lightness might love balayage for a warm caramel tone that melts softly into the ends, instead of the stripe-like look foils can sometimes give.
How long does balayage last?
Balayage can last 3–6 months depending on your hair type and how often you wash it. The grow-out is softer, so many clients stretch it even longer.
Is balayage suitable for all hair types and colors?
Yes! Balayage works beautifully on straight, wavy, curly, thick, or fine hair. We customize tones for blondes, brunettes, redheads, or fantasy colors.
How do I maintain my balayage at home?
Use sulfate-free shampoo, a purple shampoo (if you’re blonde), deep conditioners once a week, and always use heat protectant. We recommend gloss or toner refreshes every 6–8 weeks.
Do I need a toner after getting balayage or highlights?
Yes. A toner perfects your final tone, removes brassiness, and makes your color pop. It’s essential for clean blondes and rich caramels.
Can I go from dark hair to blonde in one session?
It depends on your hair’s history and health. Virgin hair might lighten faster, but previously colored hair could take 2–3 sessions for a safe transformation.
What's the difference between balayage, ombré, and babylights?
- Balayage: Hand-painted, soft and natural.
- Ombré: Dark roots gradually fading into lighter ends.
- Babylights: Very fine highlights for a soft, dimensional look.
How often should I touch up my hair color?
- Balayage: Every 3–6 months
- Root color: Every 4–6 weeks
- Toner refresh: Every 6–8 weeks
Is it safe to color damaged or bleached hair?
Only if we treat it first. Severely damaged hair needs bond-repair treatments like Olaplex or K18 before coloring. Safety and health come first.
What's the best hair treatment after coloring?
Bond repair (Olaplex or K18), deep hydration masks, and color-protecting shampoos. These help maintain shine, strength, and color.
